6 Beauty Resolutions for the New Year
Resolutions are difficult to stick to but once you find reasons to do so, perhaps you will find it easier to complete them. Take these 6 beauty resolutions, for instance; once you have read about the benefits of each to your skin, you will definitely be inspired to incorporate them into your beauty routine.
1. Be sure to remove makeup before going to bed
No matter how tired you are after a long day at work, it is crucial that you take that 5 minutes before you hit the sack to remove your makeup. Imagine that layer of makeup as being like a mask; it prevents your skin from breathing and clogs up your pores. The chemicals in makeup are also damaging to your skin and the longer it is left on your face, the more extensive the damage is. These chemicals age the skin more rapidly by decreasing collagen production that is required for healthy skin renewal and may also cause irritation to your eyes and to the skin.
2. Exfoliate at least once a week
Exfoliation clears the dead cells from the outermost layer of skin (epidermis) in order to stimulate live cells in the dermis layer of skin to replace that in the epidermal layer. This renewal process occurs naturally but as our body ages, it slows down considerably. As a result, dead cells stay on the skin, making it look dull and lacklustre.
3. Throw out any expired skincare and makeup products
Expired makeup and skincare products contains fragile molecules that may break down into something unknown when expired. This can cause irritation in the skin and/or eyes, which may leave unsightly red patches or cause a serious case of acne. As these products reach the end of their shelf life, skincare products will be rendered ineffective and makeup will become clumpy and dry, making it difficult to apply onto the skin.
4. Drink enough water
The cells in our body are made up mostly of water and without sufficient water our organs cannot function at their optimum level. The skin, being the largest organ in our body, requires a large amount of water to function properly and if we do not drink enough water, out skin becomes less buoyant and less supple which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles forming. For those suffering from acne problems, drinking enough water will remove toxins from the body and this will alleviate acne as well as even out skin tone.
5. Get a good night’s sleep
There is a reason why it is called “beauty sleep”; getting a good night’s sleep can greatly improve not only your skin but also your immune and digestive system, the quality of your hair and can also aid in weight loss! When we sleep, our body cells regenerate, renew and heal; collagen is restored, damaged cells are repaired and our hydration levels are balanced. You will find that after just 3 consecutive nights of restful and sufficient sleep, your dark eye circles will start to lighten up, your face will appear less puffy and bloated and your skin will take on a healthy glow.
6. Taking care of your Décolletage area
Raise your hand if you are guilty of this! Most of us overlook our décolletage area when it comes to our beauty routine and that is a huge faux pas. As the skin around the neck and chest area is very thin, it is where wrinkles form very easily and where it takes the most damage from the sun’s UV rays. It is therefore very important that when you apply skincare and sunblock to your face, you do the same on your chest and neck area as well.
It does not take much to attain clear and glowing skin; a healthy diet, good habits and suitable skincare products are all key factors to skin that is supple, soft and smooth. Get started on these beauty resolutions today!
