Kefir Milk is a superfood that more people are embracing for its numerous health benefits, as reported in a previous blog post, and also for the fact that you can easily make it right at home.
Here are tried-and-tested recipes shared by fantastic food bloggers that teach you how to make Kefir milk from scratch, as well as some of the yummiest recipes that use Kefir milk as an ingredient to create delicious smoothies and baked goods.
Note: For the recipes that teach you how to make Kefir Milk or Kefir water/juice from scratch, after the 24-hour fermentation process is up, strain the grains and keep them in a bowl of milk in the refrigerator for use in the next batch of Kefir milk/water.
- 2 cups Milk
- 1 tablespoon Kefir Grains
First, you will need to re-hydrate the Kefir grains by soaking them in cow’s milk over a period of 7 days in a glass container covered by a sheet of clean cloth (do not secure it). Strain the grains and change out the milk every day. At the end of the 7 days, the grains should have expanded and look a little like wet popcorn.
In a separate glass container, combine the coconut milk with the hydrated Kefir grains and cover with cloth, securing tightly with a piece of string. Place the container in a warm, dark place for 24 hours to allow the fermentation process to take place.
This recipe can be used for any type of milk – almond, coconut, soy or dairy.
- ¼ cup Kefir water grains
- 6 cups Water
- ¼ cup Cane Sugar
- ½ Lemon, cut into slices
Start by boiling the water. When the water is boiling, turn the heat off and stir in the cane sugar until it all dissolves. Let the water cool at room temperature before transferring into a glass jar. Throw in the lemon slices and cover the jar loosely so that air can still go into the mixture. Let the mixture sit and ferment for 3 days, after which strain the grains and enjoy.
This recipe is by Gastrosenses and it uses Kefir Milk instead of dairy milk to make pancakes that are perfect for the entire family to enjoy. Here is the list of ingredients you will need.
· 2 cups Kefir Milk
· 2 Eggs
· 4 tablespoons Butter, melted
· 2 ¾ cups All-purpose Flour
· 2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
· ½ teaspoon Salt
· 2 tablespoon Sugar
· ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
· 2 teaspoon Baking Powder
· 4-5 tablespoon Oil
